Jeff Mills & His Vinyl/CD Release on One Disc

You got data bits in my vinyl! You got vinyl in my data bits!

We don’t follow DJ culture all too closely, so we have never heard of Jeff Mills, but our hats are off to him for pioneering this little bit of awesome.  A limited edition with a vinyl pressing on one side and a CD mix on the other.  Check out the full story over at psfk.com.

Stop Motion Friday

Uh.....Hammer Time?

Today we show you two recent videos that rely on the age old technology of stop motion, only without all that inconvenient clay.  One is by some wunderkids of viral marketing and the other is by an albino senior citizen from Mali whose video we find a whole lot more creative with the technique, but has about 1/10th the views of the other group’s video.  Check ’em out below and let us know what you think in the comments.

New Segment – Scotch on the Rock

Put this in your earhole.

Scotch on the Rock is our new irregularly recurring column from Scotch, music and life enthusiast JD Short.  Mr. Short has spent time in the rock and roll outfits Root and The Cardinal Number, as well as being a jack of all trades for Rickenbacker.  He currently records under the name BassDbler.

Why let wine have all the fun? We’ve all heard about wine and food pairings. Craft beer is even hitting its stride with food pairings. Super. I like the idea of complementary things. Though, admittedly, food and drink pairings are mostly lost on me. My food pairing is summed: I like the wine & I like the food = good pairing. I just can’t be bothered to really care. There are a couple of things I do actually care about, Scotch and Music. I love Scotch (which I need to find a new way to phrase as someone will always shout the line from Anchorman – no apologies needed if you just did the same in your head while reading this…). It is my jam, as the kids say. Once indoctrinated, Scotch has as many nuances as the albums we love.

Check out our first pairing below.

Video Postcard from Heypenny

The floor is made out of lava!

Nashville’s purveyors of synth driven booty shaking indie-rock Heypenny sent us this disjointed, fever dream of a video postcard from their recording sessions for the song “Water”. We still have no idea what the song sounds like, but we had fun anyway. Hopefully you will too. Check it out after the jump.
