Tuesday Tip-Off: Diego Garcia

Today’s tip-off is the debut album from former Elefant leader Diego Garcia.

Moving away from his former group Elefant’s indie rock sound, Diego Garcia’s Laura is a languid piece of melancholic beauty. Drawing on traditional Spanish ballads, French romantic pop and the weathered ladies man vibe of Scott Walker and Leonard Cohen, the album succeeds in creating a world of it’s own. The mix of sad beauty with good old fashioned pop smarts manages to make Laura the perfect soundtrack to both a dark starless night and a breezy day on the beach – no small feat. It’s this same quality that has made the album endlessly replay-able around the PE offices; something we don’t see changing anytime soon.
