Sound as Vision – Francois and The Atlas Mountains

ChaCha recently discovered Francois & The Atlas Mountains, and not only does the group make us feel all Francophile in our special places, they also make some of the most visually interesting and diverse music videos we’ve seen in a long time. Check out a few more of our favorites below.

Sound as Vision

We stumbled across the very cool Mix Tape Exchange that Yeti Records runs in Minneapolis, MN via this article on Utne.  Not only is the concept cool, but we also loved the variety of homemade cover art that people are creating for their mix tapes.  That art along with the hand written song lists have really captured our little bloggy hearts.  We recommend scanning the heart warming glory of it all at the MTE blog here.

Sound as Vision – Melissa Auf der Maur

Below are a couple of our favorites.

Sound as Vision – Jeremy Brightbill

Happy New Year errr’body!  We’re kicking things off by a return to form and some of our favorite irregularly recurring segments.  Today’s return to form comes in the form of the formidable segment known as Sound as Vision – where artists present us with artwork based on musical inspiration.

Today’s artist is Jeremy Brightbill, who along with being a painter also leads one of our favorite indie rock outfits – Panic Strikes a Chord.  See what he did with the song “18” by the group The New Year.

Sound as Vision – Ghost in the Machine

Your move mp3. Your move.

This very cool flikr set by artist Erika Iris Simmons was brought to our attention today, and we’re spreading the love.  For our younger readers, the above is a cassette tape which was a medium for hearing music back when huffing freon and rocking out and jumping railroad tracks was something that the kids did.  Golden times indeed.

Check it out below for some of our other favorites from Erika’s work.  We more or less just picked the musical artists we dig the most as a way to whittle it down, because all of her work is amazing.

Sound as Vision – A New Irregularly Recurring Segment

Yes, we're bringing you this genius. You're welcome.

We at P.E. have been huge fans of the whimsical and amazing artwork of Kyle Starks since before the internet was really a thing and he was improving shitty local zines with his awesomeness.  Well, times and technology may change, but luckily Kyle is still golden.  How golden?  He’s agreed to be a part of a new segment we’re calling Sound as Vision where music related things are recreated by artists we love.  Check out the first esteemed entry into this thrilling new saga.
